Orthodontics Q & A

Why should I straighten my teeth?

When your teeth are crooked or misaligned, they can cause physical problems. If you can’t bite or chew correctly, you strain your muscles, and that can cause pain in your jaw, and even in your neck or shoulders.

Straight teeth also look healthier and more attractive, making you feel more confident about your smile. Teeth straightening is a permanent procedure, so once you do it, you’ll never have to do it again.

Why should I use Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary teeth-straightening system that replaces uncomfortable and unsightly metal braces.

Invisalign uses soft, clear trays that fit snugly over your teeth and are nearly invisible. Invisalign is also more convenient than traditional braces, because you can take out the aligner trays when you eat, brush your teeth and clean the aligners, or when you have an important social event.

How does Invisalign work?

The Invisalign system consists of graduated aligner trays that are designed to nudge your teeth into a new position over time.

When you pick up your Invisalign system from Redmond Smiles Family & Implant Dentistry, you’ll get a set of aligner trays. You wear each one for a week or two, then switch to the next aligners. You can request aligners with a distinctive blue indicator dot that makes it easy to remember when it’s time to switch.

Each aligner is slightly different than the last so it can subtly shift a few teeth at a time into a new position. The aligners can rotate your teeth and move them vertically and horizontally, depending on your needs.

Does Invisalign hurt?

The Invisalign aligners apply just the right amount of force on your teeth to move them gradually. You may feel a little discomfort the first day you switch to a new tray. The aligners are incredibly soft and smooth, so they don’t irritate your mouth or tongue the way metal braces do.

How long will it take to straighten my teeth?

Invisalign works gradually, so it will probably take a year or two before your teeth are straightened. Your Redmond Smiles dentist gives you an idea of your timeline during your Invisalign consultation.
